This “CVC Words Oh no! Card game” is a great quick activity for kindergarten, first grade, and ESL students. It is perfect for ending group time, practicing reading, or for centers. The rules are simple enough for students of all ages to understand and have fun.

How to Play:

• Shuffle the cards

• 2-6 students are ready to play the game

• One student draws a card from the pile (or container) and reads the word aloud. If they get it correct, they keep it. If they do not, they return it to the bottom of the pile (or back into the container). 

• After a student reads a card, it is the next student’s turn.

• If a student draws an “Oh no!” card, they must return all of their cards back into the pile/container. 

• Students continue taking turns throughout the game until the time is up. 

• Whoever has the most cards at the end, wins!
